I feel that creating colourful pictures with dyed wool is similar to painting with watercolours. Colours can be used on their own, or mixed using carders to create bespoke mixes. The fun thing is that you never really know how the final piece will look as the felting process has a mind of its own, when it comes to mixing and final lines.

Bluebell wood
The inspiration for this work came from the most beautiful spring bluebells and wood anemones that we have the privilege to enjoy in Cornwall, this year was a spectacular year for both species.
The technique is wet felted with a trial of a little stitching to enhance the flowers using french knots.

Godrevy is a favourite place to visit for all our family. The walk along the unspoilt coastline never looks the same with the changing light, seascape and unpredictable weather. We love to peer down at the seals and watch them rolling into the sea. The lighthouse on the island is the focal point.

We first saw Puffins when visiting the Isles of Scilly twenty years ago.
Puffins arrive on Scilly in March, they nest, have their young and then leave in August. Puffins can also be seen near Boscastle and Padstow.

We visited Wensleydale while staying in Sedbergh. Bolton Castle is near the town of Leyburn, this beautiful cockerel was running free range with his wives, in the picturesque village of Castle Bolton.
Walking around the village we watched the wild boar relaxing in a mud bath and local Wensleydale sheep playing ‘I’m the king of the castle’.
Castle Bolton looks across this beautiful dale which is named after the village of Wensley. This valley is famous for the production of the cheese. The factory allows you to sample all their products and visit the creamery.

Hoopoes have always fascinated me. My first sighting was in Kenya many years ago and I have a large batik of three hoopoes on an African thorn tree at home. In Portugal I am always looking out for them, and in Alentejo they are often feeding on the ground. This vision, when the bird was surrounded by chamomile flowers captured my interest.
Hoopoes do not breed in the UK but can be seen on the south coast during the Spring when they are migrating to North Europe and Africa.

Wild flowers in Portugal
The abundance of wild flowers in Alentejo will always be an amazing memory of our stay near Castello De Vide. I could not felt outside, but managed to take a picture of the finished piece out in the sunshine! The small picture inspired me to complete a larger image with the tree and flowers.

A view from the Island of St Mary’s across to Tresco and Bryher. In good weather the colours of the sea, sky and sand often make you feel you are on a tropical island . The beaches are completely empty, just wish the sea was a little warmer for swimming!
SOLD
We stayed near Castello De Vide in a round house for six weeks in the Spring of 2016. The surrounding countryside was a garden of flowers for the whole stay. Every day I would count, how many new species appeared, sometimes there were six! Orchids, vipers buglos, borage, poppys, mallow, scabious, lupins, oxe eye daisy, wild campion, thyme and SO many more!
SOLD
Amonites
These creatures lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago, we lived in Dorset when the children were young and enjoyed searching for fossils. The patterns and colours that can be seen inspired me to create this felt.
SOLD
While house sitting in Brockhampton, Herefordshire, we watched two male Peacocks roosting in one of two very large, old oak trees. It was in January and on very cold mornings, the peacocks were frozen in the tree! I watched them as they slowly defrosted, cleaning their beautiful feathers and eventually being able to fly down to the ground for something to eat!

Gig rowing is a great workout for the whole body, then having rowed your heart out you gently row back to shore, a chance to enjoy the scene around you. Each gig is a work of art and it is always a privilege to be sitting in a hand built clinker boat.

While staying in Croscombe, Somerset we visited Great Chalfield Manor, Wiltshire. The National Trust property near Melksham is a moated medieval Manor, with beautiful gardens and a fascinating house. While wandering around the garden I saw this Kingfisher fishing in the spring fed fish pond. I spent at least an hour taking many photographs, trying to keep my small camera still.
Cumbrian Fell Pony - sold
The Cumbrian Fell Ponies that roam over the Howgill Fells look inquisitively at you as you walk past. I always kept an eye out for them on our walks, however they have the run of the fells and therefore they could prove illusive. Their straggly, knotted manes encouraged me to use naturally dyed Blue Faced Leicester locks., which give movement and texture to the image.
The Isles of Scilly are such a special place to visit and having rowed Cornish Pilot Gigs for twenty years, one of the highlights of the rowing season was to visit St Mary’s for the World Pilot Gig Championships. When the light is fading in the beautiful clear waters, gigs appear in silhouette against the seascape.
SOLD
When the Friday night race is over at the World Pilot Gig Championships, on the Isles of Scilly, the boats return to harbour. If you are fortunate you may experience a classic Isles of Scilly sunset, the colours in the sky reflecting across the water.
